Today’s beer is a Bourbon Vanilla Stout. From the brewer’s notes, I gather that the bourbon was a happy accident – it was how the vanilla bean was preserved.
There’s a sweetness in with the bitterness in the nose, and that carries over in to the flavour as well. There’s a fair bit of astringency as well, which kind of overpowers the vanilla. The carbonation is good, and the head formation and retention are very nice.
